The Pappenheimer style basket originated with Gottfried Heinrich and Graff Pappenheim, who carried a sword so hilted in the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) - many smiths throughout Germany and the low countries copied the style, which provides excellent sword hand protection.  Overall Length 44 5/8“.
